Common name: Indian Peafowl
Scientific name: Pavo cristatus IUCN conservation status: Least Concern The Indian Peafowl is a large bird native to the Indian subcontinent. Males (known as peacocks) have a bright blue neck and a long train of green feathers, used in a spectacular courtship display. Females (peahens) lack the blue colour and train and have a white belly. These birds can be heard from a long distance by their loud and distinctive call. |
