About Nepal
Nepal is a landlocked country in South Asia, situated between India and China. The mountainous North of the country borders Tibet and is home to 8 of the world's highest peaks, including Mount Everest. The South includes the lowland plains known as the Terai. As a result of this diversity of habitats, Nepal is also home to a large diversity of wildlife. Nepal has 10 national parks and various other protected areas. It is one of the few countries where iconic species such as the Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) and Indian Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) can still be found in the wild.
About Wild Nepal
This website is a personal project of mine. I would summarise it as an attempt to promote and celebrate the wildlife of Nepal, through sharing photographs and information about it. I believe that giving people an increased awareness of wildlife leads to an increase in their willingness to conserve and protect it. Though I support their work I am not affiliated with any local or international wildlife organisation.
In making this site I have attempted to balance being accessible whilst still being reasonably technical. Sometimes the information needed to identify a species requires a quite technical description but I have tried to avoid overly academic terms where possible (though it is not always so). You can decide whether or not I have achieved this!
All of the photographs on this site are of animals in the wild.
I lived in Nepal between August 2015 and July 2016 but I now reside back in the U.K. I welcome any input - please contact me by email using the link at the top of the page.
This site builds on the foundations of my other site Wild Penang (wildpenang.weebly.com) - a website dedicated to showcasing the wildlife of Penang, Malaysia.

About me
Originally from Chester in the UK, I arrived in Nepal in August 2015 to teach Biology at The British School, Kathmandu and to lead the Science department there. I left in July 2016 to take up a position back in the U.K. I studied at the University of Sheffield where I completed a degree in Biology and also did my initial teacher training. I taught in England and Malaysia for 8 years before making the move to Nepal. At work I also co-ordinate the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award which sees me organising expeditions and training for my students. Outside of my work I also enjoy travelling around Asia, hiking and SCUBA diving.
For the last few years, wildlife photography has taken over as my main pastime, and I spend most of my spare time out and about trying to photograph the animals of Nepal. I use a Nikon D7100 DSLR with a Nikon f/4 300mm lens (most of the time) and a Tamron f/2.8 90mm lens (for macro). Some of the photos on this site were taken with older lenses that I no longer own.
