Common name: Eurasian Cuckoo
Scientific name: Cuculus canorus IUCN conservation status: Least Concern The male of this species has a distinctive 'cuck-oo' call which gives this family its onomatopoeic name. The adult bird mimics the Eurasian Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus) and it is believed that this helps the bird access the nests of host species to lay its own eggs. |
