Scientific name: Papilio polytes A large swallowtail butterfly and the commonest of this family in Nepal. Across its range, there are various forms of the female of this species. The photos on the right show a male and female of the form stichius. These butterflies fly quickly, rapidly moving between the flowers of their host plants. They rarely stop to be photographed! |

Scientific name: Symbrenthia lilaea A black / orange-yellow butterfly which looks rather similar to a number of other species of 'Jester' and 'Sailer'. The clearest distinguishing feature of this species is its orange-yellow abdomen and plain-coloured underside. |

Scientific name: Ypthima baldus One of a group of similar-looking species. The name 'Five-ring' refers to the number of rings on the hindwing underside, with the back two (tornal) conjoined rings counted as one. |
